The Glock 17

If you know anything about firearms then you should have seen a Glock coming for this list.

The Glock has become the default pistol in America and it is synonymous with the term handgun with those who know little about firearms. They earned this reputation for a reason, virtually every police department in America uses some sort of Glock as their duty gun and every Hollywood film featuring firearms features a Glock at some point.

The Glock 17 is a great handgun to put in the hands of someone who is new to shooting because it is recognizable to virtually everyone and they can generally know what to expect with it as a result of its high saturation in the media. The Glock 17 is also very simple in regards to how you would approach it.

Some might argue that the Glock’s lack of a safety might prove dangerous for new shooters, but I would argue that the lack of a safety in this case is actually safer. We have all seen the horrors of a new shooter fumbling with a safety when they get a firearm in their hands for the first time and then you, the teacher, may half go over and show them(probably for the second or third time) how to use the firearm. The Glock avoids that mess and if you are practicing proper safety on the range then this shouldn’t be an issue anyway.
