The M24 is the U.S. military version of the Remington 700, it is commonly referred to as the M24 weapons system as opposed to the M24 rifle because of the detachable telescopic scope and other attachments that are issued with the rifle. The M24 was first adopted by the US Army in 1988 where it became their standard sniper system.

The longest recorded sniper kill with the M24 is 1,367 yards, set during the Iraq war in 2005 by Staff Sergeant Jim Gilliland.
