The AP Stylebook has come out to clarify that the term “Assault Weapon” is nonsense.
The AP Stylebook put out a Tweet reading, “The Stylebook’s weapons entry offers guidance on terms including semi-automatic rifle, assault rifle, assault weapon, military-style rifle and modern sporting rifle.”

This statement could not have come at a better time. The media is currently running wild, throwing around these nonsense terms, and our beloved members of Congress are picking these terms up and using them in pieces of legislation.
While it may seem like a big load of nothing, this is a significant win for gun rights activists and 2nd Amendment supporters. This can be pointed to every time journalists, and media spin masters use these phony terms. This can also be used to aid in teaching those unfamiliar with firearms and the proper terminology surrounding them.
Interestingly, Jim Jordan decided to sign his approval to this by tweeting the following:
“Assault weapon” is a made up term.
