Russell v. New Jersey was an interesting case, but unfortunately, it did not get a chance to go to the Supreme Court because it is extremely similar to New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen.

Reb Russell II applied for a concealed carry permit in the state of New Jersey but was denied as a result of his failure to show “justifiable need.” After failing to get the concealed carry permit, Russell sued the state.

Just like New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen the case wants to see if “justifiable need” is a legitimate requirement for states to make. The question being asked is whether or not the government can deny law-abiding citizens their right to keep and bear arms outside the home by making “justifiable need” a requirement.
