The Los Angeles county police department recently held one of the worst buy back events in the history of the county and likely the worst buy back event in the entire country.

The LAPD announced that they were doing a “Ghost Gun” buy back event in which they would exchange $100 gift cards for each and every “Ghost Gun” you handed them.

The event was also handing out gift cards for other firearms but the title of this event, the Anonymous Gun Buyback, leans into the 3-d printed and unserialized firearm aspect.

From the LAPD

There was only one major stipulation put in place to save the city from the entrepreneurial types who were looking to make some cash at this event.

This stipulation being this: “we reserve the right to limit the number of gift cards an individual may receive regardless of the number of firearms surrendered.”

This stipulation would have stopped people from firing up their 3-D printers the night before and printing non-functioning Glock receivers until they ran out of filament.

The event ultimately only brought in 129 firearms according to LAPD chief Michel Moore.
