Alec Baldwin and his team have decided that recent findings from the New Mexico government have officially “exonerated” him in the shooting of Halyna Hutchins.
A lawyer for Baldwin said that the investigation by New Mexico has cleared him of any wrongdoing in the shooting of Halyna Hutchins on the set of the film “Rust”. The alleged evidence that Alec Baldwin was exonerated in the shooting was the state’s report stating that the superstar actor believed he had dummy rounds in the gun.
New Mexico’s Occupational Health and Safety Bureau released its findings Wednesday and in those findings it blasted the Rust Movie Productions LCC for what they described as “willful” safety lapses that resulted in the death of Halyna Hutchins. The state of New Mexico fined the company $137,000 for these safety violations, this number is important because this is the maximum amount allowed under state law.
Baldwin’s lawyers are playing this off as a win and an “exoneration” for Baldwin because they claim his role on production was limited to approving script changes and creative casting. The statement read in part “we appreciate that the report exonerates Mr. Baldwin by making clear that he believed the gun held only dummy rounds.” “We are pleased that the New Mexico officials have clarified these critical issues,” the statement continued.
It should go without saying that the findings from the state of New Mexico and Baldwin’s subsequent victory parade has caused quite the uproar online. Many took to Twitter and social media to lampoon Baldwin and call out his so-called “exoneration”.
