A small school district in Texas is taking a big step not only for their district but for the Second Amendment. The Grand Saline Independent School District is going to let some teachers carry in schools.

This district is by no means large, the district has roughly 1200 students. This is the best possible county to try something like this and prove that it works or show what issues there are with it.

As reported in CBS19:

Grand Saline ISD is the latest school district to arm specific staff members with concealed weapons.

Many residents in town believe it’s a good idea.

“I think that handguns in schools are something that’s necessary these days,” Branda Hellums, Grand Saline resident said. “People go crazy. They bring guns in school and start killing people. I mean there’s been too much of it going on.”

“I think they should be able to,” resident Floy Davidson said. “To protect the school and the students.”

For years, gun control activists have advocated for a ban on certain rifles and handguns because of incidents in schools. As evident by the success of the war on drugs it is clear that the outright banning of certain things does not stop their proliferation, and punishing peaceful people does nothing to help ease the greater issues in our society. This may be a pathway to a real solution and because this is starting in a small county the odds are in our favor.
