Real Clear Politics reporter Philip Wegmann pressed White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki about Joe Biden’s claims on gun show background checks.

On Thursday Joe Biden falsely claimed that there were no background checks at gun shows, Wegmann asked Jen Psaki to clarify these remarks but instead she moved to talk about the Biden administrations stance on Universal Background Checks.

From The Daily Caller:

“The president said a moment ago ‘you go to a gun show, you can buy whatever you want, no background check.’ Is there a special exemption in federal law that he was referring to, or do FLA dealers not have to do background checks when they’re at a gun show?” Wegmann asked Psaki.

Psaki, seemingly confused by the question, asked Wegmann if he was asking about Biden referring to a specific circumstance, to which Wegmann asked if it was Biden’s belief  that a person does not have to undergo a background check when purchasing a firearm at a gun show.

“No, that’s not his belief. He believes that background checks should be universal,” Psaki responded.

“Right, but he says no background check,” Wegmann pointed out.

Biden’s claim that background checks are not required at gun shows is simply false. Firearm dealers are required by law to initiate a background check on anyone attempting to buy a firearm whether that be at a gun store, gun show, or anywhere that a sale may take place. Private sales from one unlicensed dealer to another individual do not require a background check and some gun control activists call this the “private sale loophole”.
