For more than 220 years, the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution granting the right for citizens to bear arms has proven its weight in gold many times over. But it has also faced scrutiny ever since it was first ratified in 1791.

Nonetheless, the Second Amendment is absolutely necessary to protect the First Amendment (and all other Amendments), its citizens, and our great republic from a tyrannical government.

There have been numerous attempts to limit our Second Amendment rights. In fact, there are currently more than 20,000 gun laws in place. Yet, they have not done anything to stop criminals from gaining access to guns or preventing criminals from committing gun-related crimes. Many politicians and citizens would love to abolish the Second Amendment completely. The attacks are plentiful especially now that Joe Biden is president.

If the nationwide rioting since last year has proved at least one thing—without a fraction of a doubt—it’s that the Second Amendment is no longer up for debate.

For nearly a year, we have watched as anarchists have rioted, looted, and burned businesses, police departments, federal buildings, and churches. We’ve watched them attack, injure, and kill innocent people and law enforcement officers. We’ve watched entire cities burn or be taken over by violent mobs of people. And we’ve watched as mayors and governors have done nothing to stop it or protect its citizens.

With many mayors and governors defunding their local police departments, there has been a huge increase in violent crime including rape and homicide. Between the defunding of police departments and policing restrictions given to law enforcement officers by these mayors and governors, it is up to law-abiding citizens to protect themselves.

In a few instances, we’ve watched groups of law-abiding citizens armed with handguns and AR-15 rifles stand by to protect their businesses and neighborhoods. Even without firing a single shot, it deterred large groups of anarchists from wreaking havoc. If it weren’t for the Second Amendment, the outcome could have been much different and deadly for innocent people.

We also saw how Mark and Patricia McCloskey used an AR-15 rifle and a nonfunctioning handgun to keep a large mob of people from destroying their home after they broke down the gate encircling their private neighborhood. Had it not been for the Second Amendment, the McCloskey’s may have had their house burned down, looted, vandalized, or, worse, they may have been injured or killed.

And we’ve seen 17-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse defend himself from multiple attackers chasing him down a city street in Kenosha, Wisconsin. While being chased, with his AR-15 in hand, he fell to the ground and was immediately descended upon by a large mob of people including several attackers.

One attacker pummeled Rittenhouse with a dropkick on the back of his head and neck. Another attacker smashed a skateboard over Kyle’s head and shoulder before Rittenhouse shot him in the torso. And, a third attacker armed with a handgun was stopped only when Rittenhouse shot him in the arm. Had it not been for the Second Amendment, Kyle Rittenhouse would most likely be dead right now.

These are but a few recent examples of why we need the Second Amendment. When it comes to our God-given right to defend ourselves, our family, and our businesses, there is no need to debate this topic going forward. The rioting alone has proved, without a fraction of a doubt, that We the People need the Second Amendment, and it “shall not be infringed.”

Unfortunately, anti-gunners use feelings over facts and emotion over logic when it comes to the Second Amendment. Our Founding Fathers are rolling in their graves at the thought of what has happened to our nation, the Constitution, and our government.

In addition, in 2008, by a vote of 5 to 4, the Supreme Court decided in District of Columbia v. Heller that the Second Amendment protects a civilian’s right to keep a handgun in his home for purposes of self-defense. And in 2010, by another vote of 5 to 4, the court decided in McDonald v. Chicago that the due process clause of the 14th Amendment limits the power of the city of Chicago to outlaw the possession of handguns by private citizens.

It is absolutely necessary for law-abiding citizens to exercise their second amendment rights for self-defense, target shooting, hunting, and preventing a tyrannical government from taking over. While the political elite continues to infringe on all of our rights, there is one that specifically says SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED!

Yet, the Second Amendment continues to be an endangered species. You cannot defend the first without the second. Gun enthusiasts and patriotic Americans understand why we have the Second Amendment. For love of country and passion for our God-given rights and freedoms, American Gun Coalition remains loyal defenders of the Second Amendment.

The American Gun Coalition (AGC) protects, defends, and supports pro-Second Amendment voices including candidates, social media influencers, and grassroots organizations. AGC’s mission is to fight for every law-abiding citizen’s God-given right to keep and bear arms.
