A man was arrested by Fond du Lac County authorities after he threatened a person with a gun outside their home in Campbellsport on Wednesday night. According to the sheriff’s office, the incident began when a 911 caller reported that a man was pounding on their front door and refused to leave. The caller further informed the authorities that the man had a handgun and was threatening to shoot and kill people.

The police and a SWAT team immediately arrived at the scene. They noticed that the man was wearing a chest holster, which had a handgun in it. A standoff ensued in the front yard of the house, and the neighbors were asked to evacuate or shelter in place.

The officers tried to negotiate with the man, but he refused to comply. Consequently, they fired less-than-lethal beanbag rounds at him just before midnight. Although the man was struck, he managed to run away on foot while taking his gun out of the holster. At this point, K9 Rip was released, who bit the man and forced him to drop the gun.

The man was subsequently taken into custody and sent to a hospital to treat his bite injury. The authorities are referring him for a series of criminal charges.

To deal with the situation, the Campbellsport Police Department, Campbellsport Ambulance, Wisconsin State Patrol, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources provided assistance to the sheriff’s office at the scene.
