When Robert O’Rourke aka Beto O’Rourke was in high school he wrote several articles for a hacking group called “Cult of the Dead Cow” one of which included a missive about killing children.
Here are a few excerpts from the piece that was originally brought to light by Reuters:
One day, as I was driving home from work, I noticed two children crossing the street. They were happy, happy to be free from their troubles. … This happiness was mine by right. I had earned it in my dreams.
As I neared the young ones, I put all my weight on my right foot, keeping the accelerator pedal on the floor until I heard the crashing of the two children on the hood, and then the sharp cry of pain from one of the two. I was so fascinated for a moment, that when after I had stopped my vehicle, I just sat in a daze, sweet visions filling my head.
This information all came to light back in 2019 as the 2020 Presidental race set off. These fantasies that O’Rourke matches up with the profile of a school shooter.
Psychology Today noted in an article in 2018 that “shooters tend to express their frustrations and anger using art and/or social media posts.” These posts made by O’Rourke are violent in nature, as they describe the killing of children in great detail, also note that these were written while he was still young and had only recently been in high school. If O’Rourke had made posts like this today he certainly would be facing all sorts of accusations and possible profiling from the police.
When O’Rourke was confronted about the writings back in 2019 when they were initially uncovered. In response to questions about the writing, he said “I hope that as much as we can, we focus on what the really big issues are right now that people in that room care about, that I care about, that caused me and Amy to decide to enter this race.”
When asked a follow-up question about whether or not he thought this would affect his campaign he said “All I can do is my best, which is what I’m trying to do. I can’t control anything that I’ve done in the past. I can just control what I do going forward.“
