Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has pulled the trigger on gun control in response to the mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas.

The Canadian leader said “It will no longer be possible to buy, sell, transfer or import handguns anywhere in Canada. In other words, we’re capping the market for handguns.”

Trudeau has put forward new gun reforms that will outlaw the buying and selling of handguns and will be putting forward more legislation this year to combat private firearm ownership.

One proposal that Trudeau said he would put forward is a mandatory buyback of “Assault style” firearms. Other proposals in Canada are the ban on “high-capacity magazines”, defined as magazines with more than 5 rounds.

New legislation in Canada also created Red Flag laws that will allow for the courts to suspend licenses of gun owners in the country.

It is very likely that US politicians will attempt to pass similar measures in the wake of the Uvalde shooting and passage of Canadian gun control.
