The 151st annual meetings of the National Rifle Association are set to kick off in Huston, Texas in less than three weeks and debates over Wayne LaPierre’s legitimacy as leader of the organization are raging on.

It should be noted that this will be the first large form meeting the organization is holding since 2019, the year numerous scandals about financial mismanagement inside the NRA broke. Covid may have previously saved NRA leadership from challenges, but that is not the case anymore.

Not all who are heading to this event are there to challenge Wayne LaPierre, in fact, many are perfectly content with him being in charge of the organization, but some are going there with this being the only line item on their agenda.

One name being thrown out is Lieutenant Colonel Allen West. West has been called upon to overthrow LaPierre and his people from NRA leadership and turn the organization around.

As reported in Ammoland:

Lieutenant Colonel Allen West has answered the call from the group of current and former NRA Directors as well as a number of concerned life members led by current Board member Judge Phillip Journey, former Board members Rocky Marshall and Bill Dailey and Board candidate Frank Tait to stand for election as Executive Vice President of the National Rifle Association at the NRA Board meeting on Monday, May 30, 2002.

Col. West said, “In the military, we have a saying, it is that Warriors move to the sound of the guns. It is with sincere humility that I have consented to my nomination to be Executive Vice President of the National Rifle Association. History has taught us that when the people are disarmed, they are subjugated, enslaved to tyranny and totalitarianism. The Nation’s oldest civil rights institution is the National Rifle Association.”

“I would be honored to secure that legacy going forward for future generations of legal, law-abiding American citizens and gun owners. My goals are to restore the honor, integrity, and character of this venerable organization along with refocusing on our core competencies, shooting sports/marksmanship, and defense of our Second Amendment constitutional right.”

Many in the second amendment community reached out to encourage Col. West to accept the call including former NRA Board members Richard Carone and Joseph Olson, former NRA Assistant General Counsel Thomas M. Moncure, Jr., and leaders from the industry including the President of Luth-AR & Founder of D.P.M.S/Panther Arms Randy Luth.

The new allegations brought forward by the Attorney General of New York have been a major catalyst for new calls to dethrone Wayne LaPierre but calls to see him removed have been ongoing for a long time prior to that.
