A man living in a New Jersey suburb made headlines today when he barricaded himself in his home while armed with a flamethrower.

The incident started when a Red Flag petition was filed against the man, Robert Condit, and the police attempted to confiscate his firearms. Condit refused to surrender the firearms and barricaded himself inside the home. At this point, the police called in the Bergen County Regional SWAT team to remove Condit from his home.

Condit was alleged to have fired a flamethrower outside his home in an effort to deter officers from entering.

The standoff that occurred after this point lasted 21 hours and only ended after gas canisters were fired into the home and Condit surrendered.

The local authorities have stated that no one was injured in the incident and that they will be pressing charges on Condit, a man with no criminal history.

It is unclear why the police came to Condit’s house to confiscate his firearms, the man had no criminal record and according to his neighbors, he was a polite individual.

“He always says hi, he’s really friendly,” said one of Condit’s neighbors.
