Utah-based firearm manufacturer North American Arms is seeing a major change in leadership and is now employee-owned.

Sandy Chisholm has been the President of North American Arms for over 30 years and recently made the move to sell all of his stock to an employee stock trust and is leaving Mike Griffin as President and CEO of the company.

A statement from North American Arms regarding the employee stock trust tells us that the trust will annually “distribute equity ownership pieces of the company to the employees” over the course of the next few years and this will come at no cost to employees.

Sandy Chisholm had originally purchased the company well known for making high-quality tiny revolvers back in 1992. Chisholm said that he opted for this exit strategy rather than sell the company to another manufacturer in the industry because he wanted to protect his employees.

“Unfortunately, that would almost certainly lead to a relocation of this business and the loss of jobs for all those who I want to protect and reward,” said Chisholm in a statement.

In his departure, Chisholm said that he would remain on the board of North American Arms as well as on the boards of NSSF and SAAMI. With this announcement, he said, “I’m not done with this industry yet.
