A Florida man was found half-dead in a ditch with a gunshot wound to the groin, but that’s not the full story so don’t feel so bad for him yet.
21-year-old Xavier Matthews was found drunk in a ditch by officers who were called to the scene of a shooting. Matthews was extremely intoxicated and officers noted that he was confused and struggling to speak or stand but insisted that he was fine.
As it would turn out, Matthews had shot himself in the groin at a party. Those at this party, which had around 150 guests, told police that they had seen Matthews heavily intoxicated and breaking into vehicles.
Police found out that Matthews was wanted on two warrants both of which were for robbery. Police believe that Matthews stole the gun from a different car days before the party.
According to authorities, Matthews was picked up by a stranger who was giving him a ride on March 15. The kind stranger stopped at a Popeyes restaurant to use the restroom and that’s when Matthews rewards the stranger’s kindness by stealing a gun out of the car and making a run for it.
Unfortunately for Matthews got a taste of Karma when he shot himself in the groin at that party. Matthews was arrested after being treated for his injuries and has been charged with Armed robbery, carrying a concealed firearm, violation of probation, and several other lesser charges.
Crime doesn’t pay, Xavier Matthews learned that lesson in possibly the worst fashion possible. This young man is going to be a laughing stock in prison, and that is an understatement.
