Philadelphia, Pennsylvania has been riff with crime and violence over the past few years and it is residents who have had to bare the consequences of the behavior of criminals. Things are changing though, residents of the city are starting to stand up for themselves and new data points to this.

In the past 3 months the city of Philadelphia has seen more self-defense shootings than in each of the past 3 years.

As reported in ABC6:

The Action News Data Journalism team found a significant increase in defensive shootings.

In just the first three months of this year, more people have been shot in defensive shootings than in each of the last three entire years.

If defensive shootings continue at the same rate through the rest of the year, Philadelphia is on track to have more than five times as many of these incidents as last year.

This is a good sign for everyday residents, even those who do not carry. Criminals must now be afraid of their next victim being someone who conceal carries. Criminals will be a lot more careful and some might give up that life of crime all together if this trend continues.

In 2020, America as a whole witnessed a massive increase in crime that targets everyday people. Robberies, carjackings, and homicides are all up in areas like Philadelphia and many Americans chose to get armed and defend themselves rather than be defenseless in this new, more violent America.  An armed citizenry is not a solution to crime, but it is the beginning of one.

There is still a lot of work to do in America regarding crime, but things are looking up for residents of Philadelphia.
