A prank in Jacksonville, Illinois involving a toy firearm has landed three teenagers in hot water with authorities. What these young teens did can only be described as an act of complete and utter dumb*ssery.
This “prank” consisted of the three simulating a drive-by shooting with an airsoft gun. They drove up to several people on the street and unloaded on them with the replica firearm.
The airsoft guns used in this “prank” were low-powered and fired small plastic BBs and small gel BBs, not the metal ones like we had back in the day.
The teens were arrested and cited for violating a city ordinance. It is unclear if the teenagers will be hit with any real changes as a result of the prank.
Pranks and gags of this nature are crazy to think about. What if one of the people who was subjected to this prank was a concealed carry holder? Chances are this story would be about a dead teenager if that were the case. What if the police did not know that the airsoft gun was a toy and not a real gun? Things could have taken a very dark turn.
Apparently, this may be part of an ongoing trend on the internet. Some users on TikTok are reporting that the trend #orbeezgun is about more than shooting cans with airsoft guns. Some in these TikToks are firing these toy guns at each other and even strangers.
It is unclear if this case was an example of the trend getting out of hand, but it is concerning either way. With the way trends evolve and change these days there is nothing you can really do to stop them, the only thing you can do is take care of your own and teach your children how to safely and properly handle firearms. Ingraining these traditions and safety precautions into your family should ensure higher odds in the game of life, and at the very least you’ll be able to rest assured that you did what you could.
