Biden called for more gun control during his State of the Union Address. Amidst all of the gaffe and gesturing, there were calls from the President to ban “Assault Weapons” and “High-Capacity” magazines.

As reported in Fox News:

President Joe Biden renewed his call for the banning of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines in his State of the Union address.

“I ask Congress to pass proven measures to reduce gun violence,” Biden said during his first official State of the Union Address on Tuesday night. “Pass universal background checks. Why should anyone on a terrorist list be able to purchase a weapon? Ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.”

“You think the deer are wearing a kevlar vest?” Biden said, going off the pre-released transcript of the speech.

Biden added a call to “repeal the liability shield that makes gun manufacturers the only industry in America that can’t be sued.”

Biden’s claims about the firearm industry being immune to lawsuits, is simply not true. As we have previously reported the protections in place for the firearm industry are stopping frivolous lawsuits, lawsuits on the grounds of fraud or defective products are still fair game. The arms industry is also not the only industry that enjoys these protections, the pharmaceutical industry is also immune to frivolous lawsuits. In fact, their protections are greater than those enjoyed by the arms industry.

Biden’s point-of-view is also made clear by his use of terms like “Assault Weapons” and “High-Capacity” magazines. Biden is checking off the list of gun-grabber talking points, there was nothing special in his speech, but this should put 2A advocates on alert.
