Generally speaking, law enforcement groups and agents are in support of gun control measures. However today a US Marshall has come out to slam a gun control proposal involving “Ghost Guns”.
Democrat Lawmakers in Maryland are pushing a package aimed at stopping crime that will take a primary focus on creating new and harsher penalties for criminals who are caught with unserialized firearms. The new rules on these so-called “Ghost Guns” is the primary focus of this legislation and this is the most contentious part of the legislation.
US Marshal Johnny Hughes has come out to slam the new legislation and the “Ghost Gun” rules. “If you eliminated all ghost guns you’re still going to have a big crime problem,” Marshal Hughes said in a statement to Fox 5.
Hughes believes the only action which will have an impact on the city’s soaring homicide rate, is focusing on the users of illegal guns instead of the guns themselves.
“The gun doesn’t shoot people, it’s the violent offender pulling the trigger who we need to go after,” said Hughes.
Unserialized firearms are not a real problem in America, this issue has been fabricated so that politicians can “address crime” without actually addressing crime. Criminals who have lost their right to own a firearm have always circumnavigated the law by firearms from underground arms dealers or through straw purchasers. Both of these things are already illegal, buying a gun for someone who can not have one or selling a gun to someone who can not own a firearm is already a crime.Â
US Marshal Hughes has the right idea in blaming the criminals for crime as opposed to a firearm that does not have a serial number. Laws are already on the books to prevent criminals from getting their hands on firearms, they of course ignore these laws and go on to commit more crimes, that is why they are called criminals. Another law isn’t going to stop these individuals from commiting crimes, perhaps refunding the police will do the trick.
