The minds over at ARC Flash Labs have created a very interesting “firearm” called the Anvil, this is no ordinary firearm as it is a gauss rifle. Let’s talk about that.

The Anvil is not a gun, it is a gauss rifle, what is a gauss rifle? A gauss rifle or coil gun is a type of mass driver consisting of one or several coils that operate as electromagnets, these magnets propel a projectile forward at high velocity. Essentially a gauss rifle is something that sends a solid projectile down a barrel using electricity and magnetism, no powder required for these projectiles.

ARC Flash Labs’ Anvil is really something quite interesting and it is likely the most powerful gauss rifle currently on the market for consumers.

From ARC Flash Labs:

The Arcflash Labs GR-1 “Anvil” is an 8-stage semi-automatic high voltage Gauss Rifle. It is the most powerful coilgun ever sold to the public, and also (very likely) the most powerful handheld coilgun ever built.

The GR-1 is capable of accelerating any ferromagnetic projectile (under 1/2″ in diameter) to 200+ fps, and can deliver up to 75 ft-lbs of muzzle energy (dependent on ammunition).

The GR-1 uses the world’s most advanced capacitor charging system, a dual Clamped Quasi-Resonant Inverter, which allows the GR-1 to fire up to 20 rounds per minute (at full power) or up to 100 rounds per minute at 50% power.

The GR-1 is capable of accepting 3 different standard projectile lengths (32 mm, 42 mm, and 52 mm) with a unique variable magazine system.

The Anvil comes in a whopping 20 pounds and is 38 inches long, the barrel being 26 inches. The GR-1 Anvil is currently available for pre-order at ARC Flash Labs, if you want to get your hands on one it will cost you $3,750.
