House minority leader Kevin McCarthy is poised to become the Speaker of the House if the current polling data is to be believed, this is a great thing considering his position on the 2nd Amendment and his recent promise to defend it if he becomes speaker.

In a recent statement, Kevin McCarthy declared that if he becomes the Speaker of the House he will not allow any gun control to pass through Congress. “One thing I’ve learned is the Second Amendment is one of the most important amendments and you look at all my voting record. Listen, you watch this Congress itself—we believe in the Constitution,” McCarthy said.

This is great news for Americans everywhere. Gun grabbers in Washington DC have long dreamed of passing major gun control legislation and the Biden administration has been pushing for stricter regulations ever since taking office last year, with McCarthy at the helm these proposals are dead in the water.

While taking a stand against gun control is not exclusive to McCarthy and other Republicans who could lead the party if they win in November would likely knock down gun control proposals this is an important message to get across now before the election season kicks off.

McCarthy’s announcement is sure to help drive out the vote in the midterms, which are generally speaking a less popular election as there is no presidential candidate on the ticket to drive the media coverage. While Republicans are already poised to win big in November it is important that everyone works to further our chances.

A red wave in November means that most major gun control proposals will be shelved for at least two years and this will allow 2A groups and activists to focus their resources on states and localities, where the real battles take place. McCarthy’s message here is on point, let’s hope he wins and keeps this very important promise.
