A pair of armed robbers attempted to carjack a Lyft driver in west Philadelphia this past Monday, the easy score ended up not being so easy and now both men are being treated for gunshot wounds in Philadelphia hospital.

Two carjackers rear-ended a Lyft driver in broad daylight, when he stepped out to inspect the damage one criminal pulled a rifle and demanded that he hand over the car. The Lyft driver intelligently asked if he could get the passenger out of the car prior to handing it over, the thieves agreed and let their guard down.

As soon as the thief with the rifle stopped aiming it at the Lyft driver, the  Lyft driver drew his own firearm and shot both carjackers. After being shot the two thieves made a break for it, fortunately they did not make it too far before they realized medical assistance was necessary and they surrendered.

This was an extremely dangerous situation and the Lyft driver is lucky to have had his firearm, his passenger who was just looking for a ride is also very lucky that their driver had a firearm.

As many are aware, Lyft, Uber, and other ride sharing services do not allow their drivers to carry while on the job, this driver broke the rules and Lyft will probably fire him as a result of this incident. This will be sad because this driver is a real life hero and if anything the driver needs a hefty bonus from the company at the very least.

Despite the rules from Uber and Lyft many drivers have chosen to carry anyway, especially those working in big cities. Many ride-share drivers have felt the need to get armed as a result of the rampant crime going on in America’s biggest cities.

Good on him, sorry the passenger had to be a party to this, but thats life. He could always get another job, but not another life

Good for him. Unfortunate that he’ll probably be fired. He potentially saved himself and his passenger from harm. There’s no telling what the criminals would have done. I hope that when I use Uber, my ride of choice, that my driver is armed!

How in the heck can a company that puts you in harms way expect you to give up your right to protect yourself? Pardon me for saying that some people in positions of authority make a great case for abortion, and that is coming from a person that is pretty much pro-life.

there are certain people in positions of authority that make me desire EXTREMELY late term abortions. Like maybe 175 trimesters or so…..

Legislation needs to be passed that any company that puts it’s employees in harm’s way while forbidding then to possess the most effective means of defending themselves while on the job, needs to held 100% responsible for their and their passenger’s safety.

Granted ride share drivers are “independent contractors” but still, whomever they are contracted to/by should not be able to force said “contractors” to surrender their constitutional right to armed self-defense as a pre-condition of employment w/o said employer taking responsibility for their safety.

As independent contractors they should not be forced to comply with the company’s idiocy. They use their own property to transport free individuals.

It is a stupid rule that Lyft and Uber drivers are not allowed to carry legal
weapons, particularly in high-crime cities as most of the Democratically
controlled cities are. This incident proves it!!

ALL Uber and Lyft Drivers should protest and walk off the job UNTIL the companies respect their 2nd Amendment Rights!!

I guarantee, had the passenger been hurt in any way by the criminals, he would have sued the car company. In this case, the criminals couldn’t hurt him thanks to the driver!

How about someone starts a ride service that promotes armed drivers. Trained and with authority to use deadly force to protect all occupants. I think we could put the others out of business soon.

Until we get new District Attorney’s who follow the law, EVERYBODY should carry a gun. The cops have been taken out of the equation by the DA’s so we have to defend ourselves until every last criminal is shot, so they realize now we are now in charge of protecting ourselves and we will.

Carjackers will be back on the street in no time, thanks to no-bail and no-prosecution DAs. Next time, empty the magazine on both of them, make sure they are DEAD. DEAD violent criminals commit no more violent crimes.
