The United States is currently experiencing a massive spike in crime across the country and the talking heads in the media are proving once again that they are no ally to the American people with their coverage of this spike.

The media does not do itself any favors by covering things the way they do and this massive spike in crime is no different. Many in the media are taking up the tactic of deflection when it comes to covering this crime spike. The talking heads are essentially opting to run cover for their allies and themselves while covering the issue of crime and gun violence.

It is no secret that crime has become commonplace in America, cities around the country are seeing a historic rise in crime that first started in the early days of the Covid-19 lockdown and has continued up until today. Some cities are seeing record-breaking amounts of homicide and in some areas, shoplifting has become such a large issue that many stores are opting to close their doors for good. With this, many are wondering why these crime rates are going up and what can be done to stop it. There are 4 main reasons that crime is on the rise in America; policy, pandemic, people, and the press.

A lot of misguided attempts at criminal justice reform have come forward in recent months and these policies have directly contributed to the increase in crime we are seeing. Take for instance the bail reform measures being put in place in New York City and other cities across America, these measures are letting criminals leave jail without having to pay any amount of bail and this has led to many individuals simply going out and committing more crime. Another criminal justice reform that has been a disaster has been the decriminalization of some misdemeanors and the use of hard drugs. Some areas of California are now run by gangs of shoplifters that steal just under the felony amount of goods and they get to walk while other areas of the state are seeing the open use of hard drugs(Heroin, Ketamine, ETC.) in public spaces.

The reforms mentioned above have also greatly contributed to the human aspect of crime. There are those that would not normally commit crime but are enticed into doing it by the state of the areas they live in. The general mentality in some of these areas is “Why not?  You can just get away with it.” People feel as if they are not obligated to follow the law when it seems as if no one else is. If you look at Mexico where traffic violations practically go unpunished, you will notice people are not inclined to follow the traffic laws, this is the same thing we are seeing here but to a much greater effect.

The pandemic has also played a key role in the uptick in crime, many were left unemployed and desperate in the early days of the lockdown and this led to normal everyday people committing crime. Some psychologists have argued that sitting at home all day was not a healthy thing for the mentality of most people. This is why many have correlated the rise in crime with the Covid-19 pandemic.

The media’s coverage of the growing crime epidemic has been a leading factor in worsening the problem. The way the media covers most crime is abysmal, there is no worse example than their coverage of mass shooters. The independent media, like us, and the Daily Wire, and independent journalists often redact the names of the individual responsible for these incidents as a policy, the MSM tends to give 24/7 coverage of the attack and they plaster the name and face of the shooter all over the place. This is a bad policy that encourages more of these attacks, they are an easy way to get famous in the eyes of the mentally ill. The media also does an excellent job at pretending people don’t care about crime in their neighborhoods. The media plays a major role in helping grow the crime epidemic by pushing narratives as opposed to having real debate regarding real solutions.
