Seeing scumbag politicians get the maximum is a rare sight in America, in this case we got to see just that.

Former South Carolina county councilman, Kerry Kinard, was handed the maximum 18-month sentence for lying on his paperwork when trying to buy a firearm.

Former councilman Kerry Kinard has been accused of molesting a young boy, raping a girl, and threatening to kill his wife. The trial for these charges starts next month, this past week was Kinard’s trial for falsifying documents while trying to obtain a firearm.

Judge Mary Lewis told Kinard “if I could give you more, I probably would,” while giving him his sentence. On top of the stay in prison, Kinard will have to pay a $5,000 fine for breaking this law.

According to The Post and Courier Kinard’s defense attorney, Bakari Sellers, told the judge that his “client pleaded guilty to a crime of stupidity.”

Federal prosecutor Elliott Daniels said that Kinard had displayed a pattern of ignoring the rules and court orders put forward. Kinard “lived as if the rules didn’t apply to him,” Daniels wrote in his sentencing memo.

There are consequences for breaking the law, thankfully this time those consequences were tangible for a politician.
