There has been a renewed interest in firearms training and it coincides with the passage of Constitutional Carry legislation.

This news flies in the face of all those who said the passage of Constitutional Carry would lead to incredible amounts of violence and nitwits carrying around firearms they know nothing about. These talking points were recited by not only gun control activists but by Law Enforcement in states where Constitutional Carry was up for debate.

Texas, which recently passed Constitutional Carry, has seen a major uptick in the number of Texans looking into firearms training. Prior to the passing of Constitutional Carry, this kind of training was required for obtaining a concealed carry weapons permit(CCW). We could have assumed that after Constitutional Carry passed interest in these classes would drop significantly considering that it was no longer required, but this has not been the case as one instructor explains.

ABC13 met with firearms instructor Darius Sanders to discuss the changing landscape in his line of work and how Constitutional Carry has affected his income. “Since Sept. 1, since they passed the constitutional carry, I’ve had a slight decrease in license to carry interest, but I’ve had a big increase in handgun training,” Sanders told ABC13.

ABC13 also met up with the co-founder of Gray Beast Solutions, Aric Gray, to discuss the issue of concealed carry and Constitutional Carry. Gray told ABC13 “It’s great to be able to carry that gun in your purse. Great to be able to carry that gun in your pocket. But, at the same token, if you don’t understand the weapon system or understand the legality, if you don’t understand the totality of circumstances, you can’t just pull a gun out and start shooting.

Gray makes a phenomenal point in his interview to discuss the issue of education in the world of firearms. Recently our own Grace Boatright wrote a piece about what to do following a self-defense shooting, unfortunately not many gun owners know what the right thing to do is or know how to deal with the police properly. The lack of education in regards to firearms also comes forward in other ways, just look at how many people don’t know how to properly handle firearms on the range and in their own homes.
