Stupidity has struck once again! A man in Texas was rushed to the hospital after shooting himself with an “unloaded” gun.

Guns are not toys, you can seriously injure yourself with guns if you are not careful, it should go without saying that when cleaning a firearm or handling it when you don’t intend to use it you should remove the magazine and clear the chamber.

There are a few protocols to follow when handling firearms, we call these protocols gun safety. Always keep the firearm pointed down range or in a safe direction. Always treat firearms as if they are loaded. Always keep your finger off the trigger unless ready to fire.

One man in Texas skipped a few steps and managed to shoot himself in the process. There has been no update on his condition since initial reports that he was rushed to the hospital. Hope this gentleman ends up alright but it’s clear from what we do know that he is at fault for this accidental shooting.

This shooting will end up as a statistic for the gun grabbers to use in policy debate, don’t give them more ammo! Isolated incidents of idiocy are not good for the 2A community.

….when you don’t intend to use it, you should clear the chamber and remove the magazine.” OOPS!! I think that the reverse order might be somewhat better so you do not kill yourself. First, drop the magazine. Then, clear the chamber in that order. If you clear the chamber first, all you’re doing is loading another round into the chamber ready to fire.

I agree 100%. I always keep one in the chamber because I live in one of the deadliest cities on the east coast so I’m always prepared, but clearing the chamber is always on my mind before unloading. God, it doesn’t take a genius to know that.

your 100% correct , There are many pistols on the market that have magazine disconnects , meaning the weapon will not fire with a round in the chamber when the magazine is removed , as in the Sig Sauer P-226 you can keep one in the chamber and a loaded mag at hand then when things go south you only need to insert the mag & your ready to rock.

California is the only State I’m aware that requires a Magazine Disconnect on every Firearm manufactured/purchased after “X” date. Cali also has a smaller list of what Firearms may be purchased that meet their arbitrary and capricious standards.
I’ve 2 Walther P22’s. One is CA Compliant, the other isn’t. Identical in every way, except the CA Compliant gun has a Magazine Disconnect, the other doesn’t.
I can take it or leave it. I’ve only 1 gun out of 10 with that feature. There’s Pros and Cons to having it or not having it.
I know there were 1 or 2 other States looking at passing similar legislation, but I haven’t heard whether or not it was passed.

You must remove the magazine before you clear the chamber, in that sequence, every time.

Chit happens. Quit being so afraid of gun grabbers. If we all stand up for our rights everything they have no voice except to whine.

Right, the Gun Grabbers will make a big issue out of things like this. Then they utterly ignore the moronic conduct of Liberal politicians that lead to wide open criminal shooting galleries like Chicago.

Defund the police. Refuse to prosecute crimes. Disarm the law abiding. Yet stupid voters keep putting them into office at their own peril!

But! According to the Media, it’s all the fault of the LAW ABIDING gun owners! Go figure.

ALWAYS…REMIVE THE MAGAZINE FIRST, THEN CLEAR THE CHAMBER!!!
IF DO IT REVERSED, THE CHAMBER RELOADS WHEN YOU RACK THE SLIDE!
BASIC GUN SAFETY!!!

Also this is one of the reasons I don’t like striker fired pistols, I want to see at a glance whether that hammer is either down or cocked and locked. All fire arms are loaded all the time unless they are field stripped and laying in pieces on the cleaning mat. Pull the mag and then clear the chamber, and double check to make sure it is clear and lock the slide back too.

Uh, excuse me, but the gun wasn’t actually unloaded if it fired.

Another basic gun safety measure: NEVER point the gun at yourself.

Well Damn, he missed the Darwin Awards.

Treat the gun as always loaded. It’s loaded until you physically and visually verify that it’s not loaded
