AR-15 Ban

David Chipman came out late Wednesday in support of an AR-15 ban. This policy position was made while Chipman was at his confirmation hearing being grilled by Ted Cruz.

With respect to the AR-15, I support a ban as has been presented in a senate bill and supported by the president,” Chipman told Senator Ted Cruz. Chipman would continue “The AR-15 is a gun I was issued on the ATF’s SWAT team, and it’s a particularly lethal weapon. Regulating it as other particularly lethal weapons, I have advocated for. As ATF director, if I’m confirmed, I would simply enforce the laws on the books, and right now there is no such ban on those guns.

Just as a reference for anyone new to firearms, AR-15 rifles are considered to be small arms, these are not weapons of war. The AR-15 is highly desired in the consumer market because of the platform’s modularity, reliability, and how easy(until recently) .223 ammunition is to get.
