No, losing rights was part of the punishment for their crimes. It wasn’t a temporary suspension.

By law, I am a felon. I bounced a $25.00 check in Oklahoma in 1959. cost me a year in the state penitentiary. That should not prevent me from taking part in the democratic process. In fact, I have voted in every election since, and have worked in sensitive work places where a security clearance was required. There is a wide range of offences which are called felonies.

When the COMPLETE sentence is done(time served, including any probation time, all restitution made), yes . It was that way for most of our history .Do the crime, do the time, back to scratch . Too easy to become a felon with current crop of politicians in charge.

Non- Violent Felons Maybe, on a “Case By Case” basis, Umm sort of like it is NOW in some states !
